Eli Lilly and Company, the largest U. S. consumer health care corporation by revenue, announced today that it has received final approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the oral treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
The FDA is the sole agency that approved the non-injectable formulation of esomeprazole magnesium, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat the condition known as acid reflux. The company is committed to providing an affordable and convenient alternative to the traditional oral solution. As a result, it has also gained significant commercial success with Nexium®, a once-daily oral formulation of the medication.
